  A Little Church History

It all began on Thanksgiving Day, 1973 at an annual preaching in Reno, Nevada. A number of preachers gathered after the meal and discussed the need to establish a New Testament Church in Nevada's largest city, Las Vegas.

Who should go?

How should it be supported?

When should it take place?

After much discussion the "lot fell" on Darrell and Lucille Reyman and family, at that time was laboring in Carson City, Nevada.

Much planning followed the following weeks and months, including several trips to Las Vegas.

Date for the formal setting apart was had in March 1974, Sunday afternoon at the Reno Church building.

Support was pledged for the Reymans so Darrell could spend full time in getting the work started.

Bob Wiles was to be left in charge of the congregation in Carson City, until they could find someone to move there.

Prior to the move to Las Vegas, Darrell spent a few days seeking a rental for the family. Finally he found a three bedroom house on Austin Ave, for $280 a month. Moving day was set for April 1, 1974.

We obtained permission to use a downtown public library Sunday 6:00 P.M. We met there for almost a year.

On Jan 1975, we moved to a meeting place in Lorenzi Park for $100 per month. Meeting times were Sunday AM and Sunday PM with a Thursday PM midweek Bible study at our house.

Next move was in August 1975. We were able to rent a house at 3388 South Decatur Boulevard (a main thoroughfare).

Much work went in to house, painting, cleaning, shampooing, and fixing up. We were crowded but managed until we got permission from the owners to remove some partitions. We reconstructed several times and rented the place for 25 years. Finally the owner offered to sell this 1/2 acre corner with house, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks, which we took his offer.

When we began in Las Vegas, we had about 10 or 12 Christians. We used various methods in finding people and teaching them.

Some of the methods we used were: swap-meet, door to door works, advertising in Nifty Nickel, Radio, free service time ads, Vacation Bible Study in summertime. Also, we visited many churches on Sunday AM and meet on Sunday PM at the Library.

God has been very good to us through the years. Yes, we have had those who began and went back, but we made up our minds to "stick to it".

Also I was able to conduct a number of revival meetings in other places. We have had numerous revival services here as well. Some of the brethren that spoke there were: my brother Rodney Reyman (who had passed away), Earl Chambers, Ed McSpadden, Archie Word, The Gateway Singers, Dick Tucker, Marion McKee, and many others.

Having conducted a number of "Men's Training" classes, we had some that were willing to speak and care for the work when I was away.

There were around 75 members at that time, in 2003-2004. We decided, with the help of a land developer within the body here, to refurbish the entire corner and the church building to seat around 145 people. Praise the Lord!

On September 2004, we were blessed to secure John Racine and family to help us in this work. They are a family of four children and Lisa, his wife. They are a wonderful help especially when Lucille, and myself are getting up in years.

There is so much more to tell but this gives you a little glimpse of our church's history.
